Ann & Alanna Proud to represent Horizon in Leadership Challenge

Ann Collie, a Member Service Officer in our Thirroul branch and Alanna Haigh, a Member Service Officer in our Merimbula branch have been chosen to take part in the Credit Union Foundation Australia (CUFA) Leadership Challenge. The Challenge delivers a range of benefits through real and lasting in-country project work to support disadvantaged communities. This year the funds raised by the Challengers will support financial literacy in the Asia Pacific region including Fijian communities.

This is something close to Ann’s heart as she is of Fijian heritage.

“Mum and Dad originally came to Australia because it was known as the golden country of opportunity. Fiji was and still is, an impoverished country. The average weekly wage is currently $70 Australian dollars. I’m very lucky to have enjoyed a great education and have a satisfying job with Horizon. The Challenge allows me the opportunity to give back to my origins and help others to achieve the best out of life” said Ann.

Alanna’s looking forward to the challenge because she wanted to do something that would improve her self-confidence.

“I wanted something that would take me out of my comfort zone. I knew that this challenge would be difficult, however it will allow me to build on my communication, leadership and team building skills, while at the same time experiencing a different culture and helping people that are less fortunate to develop stronger communities” said Alanna.

Part of the challenge is for Ann and Alanna to raise $3,300 each by the 16th of February. 100% of this money will be used to fund the Oceanic Confederation of Credit Union Leagues, a body that helps credit unions to grow and prosper. Ann And Alanna would be grateful for any support you can give. A little bit can go along way!
